Cranleigh History Society

A group of like minded individuals interested in local and general history

We are a group of enthusiastic members who meet every second Thursday of each month (except August) to learn about historical subjects of a general or local interest.

The Society began in 2000 with a group of 25 founder members and since then our membership has grown to over 100 of which more than half regularly attend our meetings.

As well as our regular talks we arrange visits to places of historical interest where we are hosted by a knowledgeable local guide.

In addition we are continually carrying out research in order to increase our knowledge of local events and the people who lived here.As a result we are accumulating an archive of local photographs, postcards and documents.

Cranleigh Library has a collection of hardback documents including parish registers, censuses and directories as well as a well stocked section devoted to local books. We are always willing to help members of the public with their queries about people and places.
